Enteral Nutrition Support

Enteral therapy is also referred to as tube feedings.  There have been tremendous advances made in order to make this therapy an easier and acceptable form of nutritional support.  Both formulas and routes of administration have become more disease specific.

There are many forms of access from naso-gastric to skin level buttons.  The most common are:

  • Nasogastric tube
  • Nasoduodenal tube
  • Nasojejunal tube
  • Percutaneous gastrostomy
  • Percutaneous jejunostomy
  • Percutaneous gastrojejunostomy

Technology has enabled production of light-weight ambulatory enteral pumps which enable the individual to receive feedings during the day and overnight without total interruption of daily living.
